Car market and car sites in Estonia
Estonia is one of those Baltic countries where favorable political and geographical conditions were created for the automobile market. Many citizens of other post-Soviet countries annually come here to buy a car at a much more affordable price.
So HOW did such conditions become possible? Where and FOR how much can you buy a vehicle in Estonia? We will try to find answers to these questions today.
Despite the fact that Estonia does not have its own automobile manufacturing industry, the country has all the right conditions to flourish in the automobile business. The geographical and political position makes it possible to actively develop trade in both new and used foreign cars. This is due to Estonia’s membership in the European Union, NATO and the Schengen Agreement, as well as its convenient location in northern Europe. The most active demand for cars exist among the citizens of Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, who use this opportunity to buy a car at a much cheaper price than in their homeland. The reason for this was a rather significant difference in pricing policy between these states and the Baltic countries. As a rule, this applies to used vehicles with an average age of about 10-15 years.
The cost of buying a car will depend on several factors:
- Brand and model of car
- Year of release
- Engine type (gasoline, diesel, hybrid)
- Type of transmission (automatic, semi-automatic, mechanics)
- Body type
- Interior Options
It is also worth considering the additional costs of carrying out diagnostics of the proposed purchase, customs and insurance fees. But inspite of the surcharges listed above, the cost of a car in Estonia will be significantly lower than in any of the CIS countries (savings of approximately 15%).

Car markets
The number of car markets in Estonia is much smaller than in Lithuania and they are not so numerous and large, but they still operate successfully. Obviously, these are not the car markets familiar to CIS citizens that worked in the late nineties and early 2000s.
There is a large car dealership area in Tallinn, which was based on Kadaka Avenue (Kadaka puiestee) and Kadaka Street (Kadaka tee).
In the city of Tartu, many car dealerships formed an entire auto block, which now has the name “Ropka” and is located in the industrial area of the city. The majority of the country’s car markets are located in the same city, one of the most famous is Raadi, which has been operating since 1997 and is located at the old military airport of TaRTU.
